Super Saturday (a few more pics)

Super Saturday

We have been working on the rock on our house for almost two months now. Shane, Jake's cousin, has been over quite a bit to help us. Aside from Jake's dad, who has been over here helping us almost every day for the past year and a half, Shane's probably been over here working more than anyone. He and Jake are hunting buddies and they, along with my dad and cousin Bill, drew a Wyoming elk tag this year. Hunting season is fast approaching and we really wanted to have the rock done on the house before it started. So Shane and his sweet wife Geana, decided to call all the fam and see if they could all come on Saturday, August 16, to help us do rock and finish up a few more odds and ends around here that need to be finished by winter. So, bless their hearts, about 30 of them came and they all brought breakfast finger foods to share, and they got a ton of the rock done, there were people on the roof putting on the ridge vent and peak shingles, it was amazing how much everyone was able to get done! It's true what they say, "the more hands the lighter the work!" Thank you all so much! We really appreciate your help!

Gunnar's Owie!

Saturday night while I was at my friend's wedding reception Jake was putting rock on the house and Gunnar was pushing a truck around on the front porch and the truck slipped and he face planted it on the concrete! So he got a pretty bad owie, it was a pretty good goose egg when he first did it. My dad was here finishing up some plumbing so he took the boys to country corner to get them some candy to distract Gunnar and get him to stop crying. I can't believe how fast Gunnar is growing up! He's my baby! What's nice about Gunnar is he still lets me hold him and rock him, he still wants to be a baby. He's my little cuddle bug! I can't believe how well he's talking! He's always been a jabberer. From the time he was just a little baby he was always talking jibberish. But after he turned about eighteen months the jibberish all of a sudden turned to complete sentences! I was amazed! And now he'll talk your ear off! Gunnar has been my mellow child. My pregnancy with him was so different than with Dalton. Gunnar didn't move near as much as Dalton did. There was one point in my pregnancy a few weeks before my due date that I went in for a non-stress test to make sure he was ok because he hadn't moved for 24 hrs. The doctor assured me that he was fine and was probably just a really mellow baby. And he really was. He's been so much calmer than Dalton was. He was content just to sit and be held all through sacrament meeting. Since he's turned two he's a little bit more rambunctious, but still pretty mild. He loves tractors and motorcycles. He always has to have one in his hand at all times. He even sleeps with one! He's very particular. He has to have his blanky every time he goes to bed or naps. We laughingly say that Dalton is our ADD child and Gunnar is our OCD child! Gunnar can't stand having dirty hands, he has to have a napkin at every meal and wipes his hands constantly. If he's playing in the dirt he'll come up to me every 15 minutes or so and have me wipe the dirt off his hands. Gunnar has the cutest giggle! It's contagious! You can't help but laugh when you hear him laugh. If I were to describe Gunnar in four words they would be: Sweet, stubborn, chatty, and loveable. Sure love you sweetheart!

Dalton's first day of Pre-school

Dalton was so excited for his first day of preschool at the elementary! It has been fun watching the elementary be built. The whole time it was being built every time we drove past Dalton would say, "there's my school!" Last spring he kept telling people he was starting kindergarten this year because a few of his cousins and friends from Mother Goose Time Preschool were so he just assumed that he was too. I had to keep reminding him that he has one more year before he can start Kindergarten.
Weds. was his first day of school and he was so excited . . .until we actually got to the door of the preschool. There was a little girl crying just outside the door. Dalton went to walk into the room and then he stopped, backed up and grabbed my hand. I asked him if he wanted me to walk in with him and he took a deep breath and said, "No, I can do it." He looked scared to death! Then he walked into the room and was fine. I stood there and watched him for a few minutes and then Gunnar and I left. It was the saddest thing ever! He's grown up so fast! It seems like just yesterday I was rocking him to sleep and feeding him mush!
Since I'm reminiscing about Dalton I'll share a few stories about him. When I was pregnant with him I knew from the time I first felt him move that he was going to be a busy little boy. I worked at the bank as a teller and one of the girls I worked with told me she couldn't stand looking at me cuz it creeped her out cuz my tummy was always moving. Any time my tummy would bump against the cash drawer Dalton would kick at it! From the time Dalton became mobile he has been into everything! Nothing is safe! He has this fascination with food coloring - last year in Mother Goose Time Preschool they made pumpkin juice with red and yellow food coloring and milk and now he is always dying our milk different colors. I'd be a little bit more ok with it if it was just the milk he was dying, but I'm not ok with him dying our couch and his clothes . . . So I moved the food coloring to the cupboard above the fridge and guess who somehow found it? He must have searched every cupboard! For Mother's Day Dalton came up with the idea all by himself that he wanted to buy me a new dress. So Jake took me shopping and we bought a new dress and some jewelry (from Gunnar) and Dalton proudly gave it to me for Mother's Day! So I put the dress on to wear to church that day and he said, "Mom you look beautiful!" Such a sweet heart! He has always loved having books read to him. That's about the only time he'll sit still. I've had several people tell me I should write a book about the daily mischief Dalton gets into. He really is a good kid, he has such a big heart! He is just very busy! Probably the worst thing he ever did is he went through this phase about a year ago where he was peeing all over the house. These weren't just accidents though, he would pull down his pants and underwear and just go wherever he felt like it. I'll never forget the day I caught him peeing in the heater vent! I asked him why he peed in the heater vent and he said, "I didn't know I couldn't." My bad. I guess I should have taken him on a tour of the house and shown him every place he wasn't supposed to pee then maybe I would have never had that problem! Thankfully he doesn't do that anymore!
He's really into super heroes right now. Spider Man is his favorite. He has these spider man pajamas and when he wears them he becomes Spider Man. He is hilarious! He has the best memory! He remembers things from when he was eighteen months old! He amazes me! He has had our phone number and Grandma's phone number memorized from the time he was three. There has been quite a few times when I thought he was just playing make believe talking on the phone when he has actually been on the phone talking to Grandma! He figured out how to start the four wheeler when he was eighteen months old. He continually amazes me with the things he says, he is so smart! If I was to describe Dalton in four words they would be: Smart, Hilarious, Loud, and Loveable. Sure love you buddy!

Crazy Day!

One of the things I like about blogging is I can use it as a journal too. I don't have any pics right now to go with this post. Today was a pretty hectic day. It seems like everything always winds up being on the same day! We were supposed to go to our ward campout last night, but decided not to go because this is Jake's last weekend to work on our house before hunting season starts. So we had plans to work on the rock last night and get up this morning and do more rock before I needed to go to Jessica Hall's baby shower. We decided that I would ride with Geana to the shower in Farmington and then she would drop me off at my family reunion in Layton and I would meet Jake and the boys there. After the reunion we thought we'd work on the rock for a little bit before we needed to be to a wedding reception. Well, yesterday afternoon I get a phone call from Jake saying his car had broke down and I needed to go to Clearfield to get him. So that pretty much shot our plans for working on the rock last night. So he's had to spend part of today replacing the alternator in his car so he wasn't able to go with me to the reception so I went solo tonight. That was ok though, I got to visit with a lot of my friends from high school who I don't see very often anymore. It was good to see everyone. I wasn't able to help Jake do rock this morning because I woke up last night with a killer headache so I took some drugs this morning and tried to sleep it off for a little while. It was fun seeing all the fam at the reunion today. My dad had printed some copies of some of my grandpa's old slides and everyone had fun looking at pictures of themselves and their parents back in their younger days. It's crazy seeing how fast my cousins kids are growing! When you don't see them very often they seem to grow up a lot faster! I remember people saying that to me as kid, "my you're sure growing up fast!" and I remember thinking ya, whatever. But now I'm the one saying it to the kids! Time sure does fly!

Dalton starts pre-school at the elementary on Weds. I can't believe Summer is already over! It's been a fun summer. We were able to get a few fun vacations in and were able to get a lot done on the house. I just wish the summertime wasn't so short:)

Our House Inside So Far. . .

Here's a few pictures of what we have done so far on the inside of the house. We're pretty much finished with the living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room. We still have some trim to put up and a few more light fixtures, Jake also wants to put some rock around the hood and front of the bar in the kitchen, but other than that this part of the house is done. I am so excited to finally have carpet and tile and hardwood! To actually have finished walls and floors! It's so great! You don't realize how much you take for granted until you go without things for awhile. It is so much easier to clean a finished floor then it was to clean the subfloor! I am loving my new kitchen! This past year has been so hard living in a constant messy construction zone, but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks so much to all our family and friends who have helped us so much. This has been such a humbling experience. I would so much rather be helping others than being the one recieving the help, so I have had to humble myself and accept the service that people have so generously given. I have been so amazed and moved to tears many times at the countless times people have just shown up to lend us a hand. We are so very blessed to have the wonderful family and friends we do. I love this wonderful town we live in that is full of amazing people, we have awesome neighbors and ward members. Thank you all so much!

Gunnar's Big Mess!

Gunnar is going through the terrible twos! I am so not ready for this! He was such a good little boy! Ever since he's turned two it's like a switch was switched from good to naughty! He is now into everything and doing naughty things on purpose. He'll make huge messes and when I ask who made this big mess, he puffs out his chest and says very proudly "Gunnar did it!" The other day I was making peanut butter bars to take to a family reunion and I had thrown away the pretty much empty jars of peanut butter. I was stirring the mixture on the stove and I turn around and there's Gunnar smearing peanut butter out of the discarded containers all over himself and my brand new kitchen! Aaahhh!!! So I went to grab him and ended up burning the half made peanut butter bars. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart and the bakery section:)
I had to take a few pictures cuz he's just so darn cute!

Swimming Lessons

The past 2 weeks Dalton has been taking swimming lessons four days a week. He is a fish! He can now jump off the diving board into the deep end and swim clear to the shallow end all by himself! I'm amazed at how much he's learned in such a short time! I had originally signed Gunnar up as well and thought that I would just get in with him each time to help him. But Gunnar was a lot happier just watching his big brother swim. We'll have to try lessons with Gunnar when he's a little older:)

Uncle David and the kiddos

I wish I knew how to rotate pictures! This was over at Jake's parents the other day and this is the grandkids (Riley, Lexie, Whitney, Gunnar & Dalton) with Uncle David. Dalton is going through this phase where he thinks he has to pull a funny face every time someone wants to take a picture! He is quite the comedian!

Memories

I got tagged by Candace (again) so since I left some memories on her blog I get to play the memory game too. I'm looking forward to reading the memories you guys have:)

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.
